BookTalk I

The Deerwalk Literature Society successfully conducted the first session of Book Talk on 3rd August 2022.

The session was officially kickstarted by Abhay Manandhar, the club president at 4:00 p.m., after gathering in the cafeteria area. On that chilly evening, he warmly welcomed the readers and explained the structure of the session. Almost all the participants brought their books out of which some had already read them. Tushar Luitel, a club member shared his opinion about the book ‘Animal Farm’, which was based on how communism fails at the end (spoiler alert). Similarly, Saujanya Sharma enthusiastically described the manga ‘Chainsaw Man’, where he expressed how it had influenced him. Likewise, Abhay gave a summary of the book Veronika Decides to Die, a book about hitting rock bottom and rising to appreciate life.

The participants then exchanged books and read the book descriptions, which provided an overview of the book. Saujanya lively described the development of his reading journey starting from “Six graves to Munich '' a book that his father bought. Subsequently, he read the hitman book and has been reading up to 400 pages a day. He started from the manga Aku No Hana and is in touch with the currently issued manga such as Chainsaw-Man, Berserk, etc. Saurav Dhakal shared the books which hooked him into reading and explored his interests in writing such as “Matilda”, and “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory'' followed by the “Harry Potter” book series.
The readers present were introduced to perspectives different from their usual way of thinking and how a particular genre helped one to get out from the mental exhaustion but the same genre bored the other and vice versa. The in-between laughs made the session more fun and interesting.

The discussion took place till 5:00 PM. At the ending phase of the session, Abhay Manandhar and Kinjle Nepal, the president and vice president of the club expressed their gratitude to the participants.

We look forward to making the next session more fun and fruitful!
